LISA is a distributed system for learning support, consisting of a wearable sensor device, a learner’s personal Smart-Monitor, a learning analytics backend and optionally an adaptive learning application.

Together with Plux Inc. we developed a learner wristband with physiological and environmental sensors.

air quality (TVOC, CO2).
Wearing a sensor wristband, physiological and environmental sensor data are continuously analyzed to obtain information about a learner’s emotional and cognitive state, about certain learning situations and about the learning environment.
The LISA Smart-Monitor
(aka Learning Companion)
is a tablet app that supports learners to improve and regulate their learning.
It receives, analyzes and visualizes sensor data, and communicates with the LISA learning analytics backend.
LISA collects the data in the first instance and proceeds to analyze it in such a way that only the result of the analysis is displayed to the learner via the Smart-Monitor. This information is derived by combining personal data and values which, when considered as a whole, can determine relevant learning indicators on the Smart Monitor.
Learning analytics backend
The LISA-Backend provides interfaces for the transmission of data, both from Smart-Monitor or mobile learning applications, and back to the learner.
Depending on the final use, data, after being collected, can be saved as raw data or aggregated data. This data can be kept and processed locally but also transmitted to the LISA-Backend or an external application.
